Baby, It’s Cold Outside

I’m pretty sure that I am the only person on the East Coast who is notttt pleased that the weather has been uncharacteristically warm. Why you might ask? Well, first, I was a winter baby so I like to think I have a natural affinity for weather of the colder persuasion. Second, I HAVE SO MANY CUTE COATS I WANT TO WEAR. See, coats always get a bad rap: They’re ugly people say, they’re bulky people pout, they cover my cute outfit they complain. So wrong. When you shop around properly and find the right coats, they can become a statement piece in their own right. Below I’ve compiled a few great coats all under $100. So prepare yourselves my friends, as they say in Game of Thrones….winter is coming.

COPE Fluffy Zip-Up Bomber Jacket- $59.99

Urban Outfitters Bomber Jacket

I’m a sucker for anything with the word ‘fluffy’ in the title. I mean it just instills an image of being comfy-cozy am I right? This jacket from Urban Outfitters is the perfect balance between functional, comfortable, and of course, fashionable. The neutral color will go with pretty much any outfit, from jeans to dresses. This jacket is perfect for a work event or dinner with the family. Be warned: people will probably ask why you haven’t taken of your jacket even though your inside. Those people can step off; you cant help it if this jacket feels like a giant hug!

Kenneth Cole New York Mixed Media Quilted Coat- $99.16

Kenneth Cole Coat

This jacket right here is going to be your best friend when it’s 40 degrees and you have to trek across campus to a 9 am statistics class (still bitter about this addition to my schedule, pun intended). This coat has down-and-feather fill, which will definitely keep you warm, as well as a removable hood for those days when snow decides to grace us with its presence. The tweedy contrast body panels give this coat a unique look, and the length is great for keeping you as warm as possible. This jacket is ideal for everyday wear this winter. See? I told you coats are fun!

AEO Vegan Leather Moto Jacket-$99.95

AE Jacket

Let’s get real here for a minute: as a college student myself we alllll know that even if it’s -50 degrees out, you will not under any circumstances where a coat to Da cLuB. You will inevitably freeze your ASSets off and curse the day you decided to live in the Northeast. Since I know you won’t wear a winter jacket for a night out, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please at least wear a leather jacket. It adds a fun edge to your outfit and will keep you relatively warm. This one from American Eagle Outfitters is made out of vegan leather, so not only is it chic, you also wont have to worry about PETA throwing red paint at you either. Score!

Who Run the World? Girls (In Snapbacks).

Any decent writer receives inspiration from all the things around them. Usually you think of nature, love, heartbreak or something of that sort to spark inspiration.Typically, you don’t think of a Star Wars snapback with little yodas on it, but alas, here we are. I was on vacation when one of my friends returned from a shopping trip with the adorable snapback described above. Now, normally, snapbacks are not my style but for some reason I just HAD to have one. Within 30 minutes me and three friends were trolling the beach shops for the perfect snapback. I could not believe all the different styles and selections! I mean you can buy everything from a cheetah print hat, to a Star Wars hat, to a plain ole’ black hat. After spending the better part of the afternoon trying on give or take 50 hats, we all left with snapbacks in hand, or shall I say, on head. Naturally I took this opportunity to fulfill some song lyrics via Instagram…#snapbacksandtatoos

snapbacks and tattoos

Everyone from Cara Delevingne (girl crushx1000), to Rihanna, to Beyonce has been rocking the look, and you sure as hell can too. This is the exact Vans hat that my friend bought, and is perfect for a girly look with a hint of wit. Rock it with a white dress or a casual crop top and jean shorts. Now here is the Neff hat that I purchased; I loved the tribal print and felt it was the perfect middle ground between the sporty look and my typically girly style. This floral print snapback from Urban Outfitters is a personal favorite and will look great with a plain white T-shirt and jeans. Watch out boys; you know girls run the world (including the snapback world).

And finally here’s a picture of all the ladies rocking their own unique snapback style. What do you think about this trend? Will you try it out? Let me know people! You know I love hearing from all of you 🙂 Also, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @loansandlouboutins to check out all of my shenanigans.

Steals and Deals of the Week

Do you ever have one of those weeks where all your money goes out the window and then you look back and go “Wait, what did I even buy?” Well, this was one of those weeks for me between gas, a haircut ,and of course, the pitfall that is CVS. This week I went in there to buy Claritin. That is all. I walked out $50 poorer after buying nail polish, bobby pins, a shower cap and a slew of other things that I definitely didn’t need. It’s like every time I walk into CVS I start to prepare for a beauty apocalypse and convince myself that I should stock up on that extra bottle of nail polish remover “just in case.”Anywho, since I’m working this whole weekend I’ll have a little extra spending money, but I still don’t want to spend a fortune on anything. Here’s my Steals and Deals of the Week for all my fellow broke beauties.

 Aeropostale: Jacquard Bustier Dress- $29.75

aero dress

Now, I’ve got to be honest here: I haven’t shopped at Aeropostale in a really long time. It sort of got lost in the high school transition from Abercrombie and Hollister to Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. That being said, I was pleaseantly surprised when I stumbled upon this adorable bustier dress and learned it was from Aeropostale! After finding this little number, I went on the Aeropostale website and found a number of great pieces. It seems to me that the company has updated their styles and I’m 100% on board. I’m loving the print and silhouette of this dress, and at $29.75, I might just have to get this floral romper as well..

Urban Outfitters: Sparkle & Fade Double-Slit Maxi Skirt- $19.99

urban slit skirt

In the heat of summer it can be monotonous to wear shorts day after day after day. That’s why I’m a huge fan of maxi skirts. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re also lightweight, not to mention adorable. When I first saw this skirt I loved the floral pattern and double slits, but I was afraid of pulling an Angelina Jolie on the red carpet with her leg sticking out. After some careful examination, A.K.A stalking Urban’s website, I think the airy, high-waisted fit should make this look completely scary leg proof. Gosh, what on earth would you guys do without these incredibly scientific anaylis’ of clothes?

Aerie: Emma Pushup Bikini Top:  $24.99

aerie bikini

If you follow me on Instagram (*cough cough* *wink wink*) you know that I recently bought this bikini at Aerie. Words cannot express how much I love this bathing suit. The pushup top is flattering without being over-the-top, and the bottoms have the perfect amount of coverage. Aerie is currently hosting their semi-annual sale, so pretty much everything on the site is discounted. If you’re in need of bathing suits I HIGHLY suggest stocking up now, especially since there is free shipping with any swim purchase. While you’re on the site buying up all of their swimwear, I might as well play devil’s advocate and recommend these shorts which are currently marked down to $14.99. They are beyond comfortable and the fun pattern is perfect for summer. You can check out how I styled these shorts on Instagram (*COUGH COUGH* *WINK WINK*)

Do you guys think you’ll buy any of these products? Do you know of any great deals going on right now? Let me know! Oh, and if by some crazy, off-chance something has prompted you to want to check out my Instagram, the link is on the main page!

Make A Statement

There’s no need to tell you that statement jewelry is totally on-trend right now, however, I don’t believe that statement should be “I just spent my food budget for the month on this necklace.” The thing about trends like this is that they come and go quickly, so it’s wise not to invest too much money into the pieces. That doesn’t mean you can’t play around with the look at all though! Below I’ve compiled a few of my favorite statement jewelry pieces in the hopes of keeping you from having to choose between looking fabulous or surviving off Pop-Tarts for the month.

Frosted Glam Bib Necklace- Forever 21: $11.80

forever 21 statement necklace

I’m kind of obsessed with this colorful necklace from Forever 21. I feel like it would be physically impossible to be sad when wearing such a bright, happy necklace. I would wear it with a simple with T-Shirt and jeans to let the fun piece take center stage. At only $11.80, this necklace just spiked my happiness meter off the charts.

Arc My Words Green Rhinestone Bracelet- LuLu’s: $11.00

lulu*s bracelet

Please excuse me a moment while I find my wallet to buy this bracelet IMMEDIATELY. The gorgeous combination of blue, green, and gray rhinestones, plus the unique twist of the curved gold band makes this bracelet a must-have in my book. Oh, did I mention that it’s only $11.00. I KNOW RIGHT?! Do you need help picking your jaw up off the floor?

Dripping Chains Earrings- Urban Outfitters: $14.99

urbanoutfitters earrings

I have to be honest with you guys: I’m not usually an oversized, dangly earrings kind of gal. However, when I saw these earrings from Urban Outfitters I got a serious Coachella, hippy-chic vibe that I’ve been looking to try out. At $14.99, this is the perfect price for me to do a little style experimentation. I will definitely be channeling my inner Vanessa Hudgens when I wear these bad boys.

So what do you guys think? Is statement jewelry fun? gaudy? Is this a trend that your obsessed with right now, or could do without? Let me know! I’d love to hear from all you lovely Fashionistas.

Look for Less: Coachella Edition

While those pesky Californians frolic in the desert at Coachella with their flower headbands and jean shorts, those of us here in New York are just content with the fact that it’s not snowing. I’ve never been to Coachella, but judging by the pictures, it seems like this festival is actually a contest of “who can look like the hippiest hippy.” Now, if such a contest were to exist,(perhaps it already does?!) the winner would hands down, without a shadow of a doubt be Vanessa Hudgens.

Look For Less:

Vanessa Hudgens Coachella
In my mind if you whisper the world “Coachella” three times fast, Vanessa Hudgens will appear. The Disney darling has become a fixture at the music festival and is the reigning queen of hippy chic. Here she is pictured wearing an adorable bright, patterned dress paired with motorcycle booties, a big floppy hat and in true Coachella fashion, TONS of rings, bracelets and necklaces. While this look probably wouldn’t work anywhere outside of Coachella, you can certainly incorporate elements of the look into your spring wardrobe.

Look We Can See Less Of:

While some celebrities definitely hit the hipster nail on the head with their Coachella outfits, others were a little, let us say…..misguided. Case in point: whatever on earth is up with Kendall Jenner’s nose ring/earring/torture device. I’m not really sure whats going on with this look, and honestly, I’m pretty okay with that. As a Coachella novice, we’ll forgive Kendall this infraction, but next time Ken, run your look by Coachella Queen Vanessa Hudgens first.

Wear it Out

Well people,I have some good news and some bad news. Let’s start with the good news: it is OFFICIALLY spring! Yay. Here’s the bad news: mother nature didn’t seem to get the memo and it’s still pretty damn cold out. In the hopes of inspiring some rapid weather changes, here are a few spring-time pieces that can all be worn now and later.

Urban Outfitters: Motel Narla Cross- Back Dress

Urban dress

This dress is ideal for transitioning from winter to spring. The daisy pattern is adorable and gives a spring-time feel, and will look great paired with tights and boots for those colder days. Once the weather starts to warm up (dear god, please happen soon), ditch the tights and add a colorful cardigan for an ideal date look. This dress was originally $70.00, but is currently only $39.99! Also, two of the most sacred words in the world of fashion: Free Shipping.

kate spade new york: Seaport Watch

kate spade necklace

kate spade new york is one of the hottest brands right now with their amazing selection of handbags, accessories, and jewelry. Unfortunately, for most of us when we think of brands like this, Kristin Wiig in Bridesmaids comes to mind with her “help me I’m poor.” statement to the flight attendant. Luckily for us though, kate spade new york has excellent sales! This Seaport watch for example, was originally $150 and is now $105. The pop of pink will brighten up any outfit regardless of the weather outside. Plus, if you join their mailing list you will receive 15% off your next purchase. Sounds good to me!

Gap: Slub floral tee

gap tee

It’s not exactly breaking news that florals scream spring. This T-shirt from Gap is perfect to wear now with jeans and a cardigan. Wear is later with shorts and flats for a casual daytime look. The best part about this shirt? It is only $11.99. Yes you read that correctly: $11.99! What’s that I hear? The sound of your feet running to the nearest Gap? That’s what I thought.

So get going on that spring cleaning guys! You have to make room for all these amazing new additions to your wardrobe. Hopefully, the weather will pick up on these not so subtle hints and we’ll be basking in the sun in no time. Fingers crossed!

Saving Some Green

With St. Patrick’s Day a few days away, it’s the perfect time to add some green to your wardrobe. Whether you’re celebrating the day at the parade in NYC (aka “navigating your way around drunk people dressed as leprechauns day”) or heading to a local pub crawl, you’ve got to incorporate a little green into your outfit. Regardless of if you’re irish or not, green is a great color for spring and can be worn all season long. Using the luck of the Irish, I was able to find a few fashionable and inexpensive pieces.

Nasty Gal- Campus Love Knit: $24.00

green sweater

This green knit croptop is perfect for spring. The bright color is fun and will work great with jeans or a skirt. This top was originally $48.00 but is currently on sale for $24.00! Who said adding some green to your closet has to cost you a lot of green?

AE Favorite Tank- Neon Green: $10.00

ae tank

This low-key tank top from American Eagle will be great for heading to the gym or running errands. For a casual look pair this tank with jeans and a simple necklace. FYI this tank was originally $15.95 and is currently on sale for $10.00. It also comes in other colors including pink, black, white, brown, orange, coral, lime and blue, all on sale. Just saying……..

BaubleBar Spring Potpourri Bib Necklace-Clover: $18.00

green necklace 1

This statement necklace, conveniently called clover, will be the perfect addition to your jewelry collection this spring. Use it to dress up a white T-shirt and jeans or pair it with a simple dress for a night out. This necklace was originally $36.00, but for a limited time it’s only $18.00!

Urban Outfitters Truly Madly Deeply Kiss Me I’m Irish Cropped Tee- $24.00

kiss me

I figured I would include at least ONE funny St. Patrick’s Day shirt. This cropped tee from Urban Outfitters reads “Kiss me I’m a wee bit Irish.” Urban Outfitters has a slew of St. Patrick’s Day attire, from socks to shirts. WARNING: Some people may use this shirt as an excuse to try and kiss you. Blarney!
