Well hello there friends. Long time no see. First, let me apologize for dropping off the grid; it’s been a world-wind 6 months. In that time I’ve graduated college and started working full-time in NYC at a job I LOVE. Unfortunately, there’s been some other stuff pop-up with a loved one that hasn’t been so great; I won’t go into the details but lets just say I don’t think I’ll ever accept bad things happening to amazing people. However, this whole ordeal has been eye-opening. I’ve learned what I really value in life, who my real friends are, and to let go of any negative things or people in my life because aint nobody got time for that. Sometimes it takes something terrible to realize what really matters. Which is why I’m here now my fashionistas. I’ve missed writing and hearing from all your lovely faces. While I may have graduated and moved onto the working world, being thrifty is still a necessity (I recently found myself paying $15 for a sandwhich in the city; it was adequate at best). So here we go! Consider this the official re-launch of Loans and Louboutins. This will be fun…
How many times have you read the articles “How to Live a Happier Life” “10 Steps to Happiness” “Read These Tips and Everything in Your Life Will be Perfect!” Honestly I find these articles pretty irritating because they read like hard driven facts instead of what they actually are: someone else’s ideal happiness. As promised, I’ve created a lifestyle section to my blog which I’m super nerdily amped about, and this will be my first post for the category. I want you guys to know that everything I write for these posts ,unless otherwise backed by some totally legitamate source like WebMd or Wikipedia ;), is my opinion. However, I hope that what I say can apply to you guys and bring your lives a little bit more happiness than before. Below I’ve compiled a few things that I’ve been doing this past month that have made me happier than this panda playing in the snow.
1) Let Go of the Past
This sounds so incredibly simple, but it’s honestly one of the hardest things to do. I know I probably sound like a crazy yogi or something but I’ve been so into the “good vibes only” mantra lately and I truly think its made my life better. I’ve dropped those heavy resentments of the past because honestly, it’s exhausting to carry around. As soon as I stopped thinking about those toxic things, events, people from the past, I felt so much more blessed by the amazing people I have surrounded myself with. Like the great Taylor Swift says…..
2) Read A Book For God’s Sake
Sorry didn’t meant to get all motherly on ya but seriously, reading is one of the greatest joys in life and one that I had stopped participating in for far too long. While Netflix is definitely another great joy in my life (currently obsessed with The Fall), sometimes I feel like my brain is melting after watching episode after episode after episode. When Netflix gets concerned about how long you’ve been watching and asks if you are indeed still watching, it’s time to put down the computer and grab a book. I’m not saying go and read Beowulf or Moby Dick, unless ,you know, thats your jam, but read a trashy romance novel, a biography of your favorite celeb, ANYTHING. Below are a few books that I just could not put down.
3) Chill the Hell Out
Nobody really tells you how terrifying/stressful/I-need-a-paper-bag-to-breathe-into-scary being a second semester senior year can be. With all them fancy investment banker types talking about how they’ve already landed their dream job, it’s hard not to panic. However, after countless phone calls home crying about how I’ll never ever ever get a job, I’ve realized that’s just not true. Sure, it may not be the second I graduate, but it’ll happen and there’s no use worrying about it now. I’ve found that writing down my concerns or whatever’s on my mind in a journal has been SUPER helpful. Just to see the words written down and reading them back seems so much less threatening than having them ping-ponging around my mind endlessly. So instead of stressing, I’m just gonna enjoy this last semester of college where 3:00 is still considered breakfast time and going to the bar on a Tuesday is perfectly acceptable.
What have you guys been doing in the New Year to make your life better? You know I love to hear from all of you! PS follow me on Instagram @loansandlouboutins for tons of outfits/puppies/nyc pictures and other fun stuff 🙂
These past few months have been a whirlwind of lab reports, turning 21 (!!!!!), finding motivation to study for finals and terrifyingly, becoming a second semester senior. I decided that after a crazy stressful semester, I would take a brief hiatus from writing, butttt now I’m back and feeling pretty inspired by the new year. Usually I just brush off New Years as another meaningless holiday, but after a an incredibly insightful 2014, I’ve made resolutions that I plan on sticking to in 2015. I’ve also had a lot of time to think about Loans and Louboutins and I came to the conclusion that if I’m going to make changes, then L&L is going to also! Don’t worry, I will still tell you where to get the best deals in town, but look forward to some new additions to the site such as health, fitness, beauty sections and anything else that you guys would like to see on the blog. So cheers to a new year I can’t wait to get my 2015 blog on.
If you guys have been following me on Instagram *wink wink hint hint:@loansandlouboutins* then you’re all well aware that I’m absolutely obsessed with Taylor Swift’s new album ‘1989.’ It’s no secret that Taylor is my favorite celebrity of all time, so my opinion MIGHT be a little biased, but this may or may not be the best album ever. Girlfrand is freaking killin it on the charts and sounded amazing on Good Morning America. I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when the ‘Blank Space’ music video came out (you can ask my wonderfully patient roommates: I talked about it for two days straight). Not only does Taylor know how to poke fun at herself, but she knows how to do it while looking fabulous. Below are a few of my favorite fashion moments from the ‘Blank Space’ video. Oh, and Taylor in case you haven’t seen my continuous Tweets/Instagrams: I’m free anywhere anytime to hang out. But seriously..be my best friend?
1) Taylor Kills A Cake
Okay, I don’t know about you, but I wear my old high school T-shirts and yoga pants with holes in them to bed. Not Tay. Everything about this look is off the charts hot. Between the all black, the sheer cardigan and the lace sleeping mask, I’m certainly inspired to amp up my sleepwear. Emulate Taylor’s look with a black bralette and her famous red lip, but maybe just leave the knife in the kitchen. Oh, and let’s not forget the special appearance by Taylor’s cat Olivia Benson. I actually don’t think she can get any cooler.
2) Ooops I Dropped Your Phone…
I dare you to tell me you don’t love this outfit. First off, holy crap does this girl have some long legs. At 5’3 her stature is enviable to say the least. Since I cant have her height, I can at least copy her outfit. The matching crop top and skirt combo has been a favorite look of mine for a while now. This floral pencil skirt and crop top would look amazing for a night out with killer heels and a leather jacket. Your gonna look so fab everyone’s gonna be all:
3) Taylor Hangs Out With A Deer
This is hands down one of the best parts of the video when Taylor gets crazy eyes and goes berserk on her leading man. A leopard print dress with heels and gold jewelry a-la Taylor is a perfect date night option. Just be sure to leave your crazy at home. Also, I wouldn’t be doing this look justice if I didn’t include this gem:
So go watch ‘Blank Space’ for the 1000th time and check out all of these amazing style moments. The haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate about Taylor’s love life, but we all know she’s the one who’s laugh laugh laugh laughing all the way to the bank.
I’m pretty sure that I am the only person on the East Coast who is notttt pleased that the weather has been uncharacteristically warm. Why you might ask? Well, first, I was a winter baby so I like to think I have a natural affinity for weather of the colder persuasion. Second, I HAVE SO MANY CUTE COATS I WANT TO WEAR. See, coats always get a bad rap: They’re ugly people say, they’re bulky people pout, they cover my cute outfit they complain. So wrong. When you shop around properly and find the right coats, they can become a statement piece in their own right. Below I’ve compiled a few great coats all under $100. So prepare yourselves my friends, as they say in Game of Thrones….winter is coming.
COPE Fluffy Zip-Up Bomber Jacket- $59.99
I’m a sucker for anything with the word ‘fluffy’ in the title. I mean it just instills an image of being comfy-cozy am I right? This jacket from Urban Outfitters is the perfect balance between functional, comfortable, and of course, fashionable. The neutral color will go with pretty much any outfit, from jeans to dresses. This jacket is perfect for a work event or dinner with the family. Be warned: people will probably ask why you haven’t taken of your jacket even though your inside. Those people can step off; you cant help it if this jacket feels like a giant hug!
Kenneth Cole New York Mixed Media Quilted Coat- $99.16
This jacket right here is going to be your best friend when it’s 40 degrees and you have to trek across campus to a 9 am statistics class (still bitter about this addition to my schedule, pun intended). This coat has down-and-feather fill, which will definitely keep you warm, as well as a removable hood for those days when snow decides to grace us with its presence. The tweedy contrast body panels give this coat a unique look, and the length is great for keeping you as warm as possible. This jacket is ideal for everyday wear this winter. See? I told you coats are fun!
AEO Vegan Leather Moto Jacket-$99.95
Let’s get real here for a minute: as a college student myself we alllll know that even if it’s -50 degrees out, you will not under any circumstances where a coat to Da cLuB. You will inevitably freeze your ASSets off and curse the day you decided to live in the Northeast. Since I know you won’t wear a winter jacket for a night out, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please at least wear a leather jacket. It adds a fun edge to your outfit and will keep you relatively warm. This one from American Eagle Outfitters is made out of vegan leather, so not only is it chic, you also wont have to worry about PETA throwing red paint at you either. Score!
Where do you guys like to buy your winter jackets? Do you have a favorite brand? Let me know! Also be sure to follow me on Pinterest and Instagram @loansandlouboutins
Fanatics New York Giants Jersey: Obviously you’ve gotta start your game day outfit with your favorite team/player’s jersey. I’ve already told you that I’ve been a Giants fan since I was a little girl, but I’ve also been a huge fan of the Manning brothers for quite some time. I always thought the idea of two brothers managing to make it big in one of the most competitive fields in the country was so inspirational. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Eli plays for the Giants and has an arm that can throw for dayzzz. Fanatics has one of the best selections of NFL Jerseys around so you’ll be able to find your favorite player’s jersey easy peasy right here.
Red Sweater: Football season in NYC is quite chilly so layering is key. I like to layer a sweater with one of my teams colors underneath my jersey to really show off my team spirit and to keep my arms from freezing off my body at the tailgate. Fashionable and functional. Can I get a hell yeah! No? Too much? Okay…..
Boyfriend Jeans: I’ve been living in my boyfriend jeans lately and they are perfect for a relaxing day watching your team kick butt. I like mine with rips in the knees for a little extra flare!
Beanie: Remember that NY cold I was telling you about? Well a beanie is a great option to help you keep warm, not to mention look pretty darn cute. Oh and hypothetically if you hadn’t washed your hair in a few days a beanie will totally cover that right up. Just saying…..
Booties: Booties are my latest obsession. They’re cute, fashionable, and comfortable. Done, done and done. They’ll help give the outfit a little more of a girly twist!
You guys know I’ll be rooting for my Giants this football season (fashionably of course). Who is your favorite team? What’s your game day style? Let me know! Also don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @loansandlouboutins to get a daily dose of fashion and craziness.
