DIY Lilly Pulitzer Jewelry Box

Friends! I have missed you so. First, I’m truly sorry for the delay in putting up this post; senior year has turned out to be far more hectic than I anticipated. Here are a few highlights from this past month: I almost got hustled by a monk in the city, someone pulled a tree out of the garden in my apartment complex at the first big party of the semester (yes, a tree; our landlord was THRILLED) and of course attempting, somewhat unsuccesfully, to avoid senioritis. It’s been a fun month, but I’ve missed writing for you guys dearly so I’m herby promising not to let that much time lapse between posts again! P.S. to keep up with my ridiculous life on a more daily basis be sure to follow me on Instagram @loansandlouboutins. Now, all this fun has led to this chick bringing broke betch to a whole new level (pasta all night errynight). This was particularly problematic when I was decorating my apartment so I decided to get a little crafty with my jewelry storage. Check out how I took a junky storage container and an old Lilly Pulitzer planner to create an adorable jewelry box!

Step One

So I found this little storage container while cleaning out my room over the summer. I’m not sure when I decided to decorate this box with butterfly and shamrock stickers but lets just say it’s not so cute for a 20-year-old. I figured I would just toss it, been then I realized I needed something to keep my jewelry in at school and that’s when this idea struck me. My Lilly Pulitzer planner from last year had so many cute pages that I wanted to use for a project, and this was the perfect opportunity!

Step Two

If you guys have read any of my previous craft posts you know I generally go into these projects thinking they’ll be super easy and end up wanting to pull my hair out 2 hours later. This project was much different ,however, the ease of it still didn’t stop me from a glass or two of wine; a crafting essential in my book. All that I really needed to do was pick which patterns from the planner I wanted to use and cut them to the measurements of the box.

Step Three:

At this point all I had to do was tape the patterns to the box and voila! I had my very own Lilly Pulitzer jewelry box! I decided to line the drawers of the box with the patterns as well for a fun little punch of color when I pull something out to wear. The best part of this project was that it didn’t cost a thing and it had relatively no cleanup required. The lazy girl in me was pleased with how an hour of work turned this junky storage container into a designer jewelry box!

Have you guys ever done any repurposing projects? Have you used your Lilly Pulitzer planners to create anything interesting? Let me know what you think of this project!  You guys know it makes my day to hear from you 🙂

Hot In The City

Hello friends! This has been quite a week for me, between moving into my new apartment, celebrating syllabus week, and most notably, starting my new internship! So far there have definitely been some unforgettable moments, i.e. that time we had to use a hammer to knock the deadbolt off our door on the first night here because we were locked out of the apartment (l.o.l.). This week I started an internship in the real live fashion world, and I absolutely love it. I also came to the sad realization that although I’m a native New Yorker, I never fail to get lost in the city. I thought I’d dedicate this post to my fellow Fashionista’s out there who need a little internship/job wardrobe inspiration, because we all know that waking up at 7:30 is a lot more enjoyable when there’s a cute outfit waiting for you.

Who Run the World? Girls (In Snapbacks).

Any decent writer receives inspiration from all the things around them. Usually you think of nature, love, heartbreak or something of that sort to spark inspiration.Typically, you don’t think of a Star Wars snapback with little yodas on it, but alas, here we are. I was on vacation when one of my friends returned from a shopping trip with the adorable snapback described above. Now, normally, snapbacks are not my style but for some reason I just HAD to have one. Within 30 minutes me and three friends were trolling the beach shops for the perfect snapback. I could not believe all the different styles and selections! I mean you can buy everything from a cheetah print hat, to a Star Wars hat, to a plain ole’ black hat. After spending the better part of the afternoon trying on give or take 50 hats, we all left with snapbacks in hand, or shall I say, on head. Naturally I took this opportunity to fulfill some song lyrics via Instagram…#snapbacksandtatoos

Everyone from Cara Delevingne (girl crushx1000), to Rihanna, to Beyonce has been rocking the look, and you sure as hell can too. This is the exact Vans hat that my friend bought, and is perfect for a girly look with a hint of wit. Rock it with a white dress or a casual crop top and jean shorts. Now here is the Neff hat that I purchased; I loved the tribal print and felt it was the perfect middle ground between the sporty look and my typically girly style. This floral print snapback from Urban Outfitters is a personal favorite and will look great with a plain white T-shirt and jeans. Watch out boys; you know girls run the world (including the snapback world).

And finally here’s a picture of all the ladies rocking their own unique snapback style. What do you think about this trend? Will you try it out? Let me know people! You know I love hearing from all of you 🙂 Also, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @loansandlouboutins to check out all of my shenanigans.

Beach Getaway

Hey all! Sorry I haven’t posted anything this week; I’ve been busy planning my boyfriend’s surprise 21st birthday party! Yes, he was quite surprised, and no I don’t think I’ll play the role of distractor for anyone’s surprise parties in the future. Casually insisting that my car needed to be washed, my 3/4 full gas tank needed to be filled, and that going to the bank was a necessity, all before dinner had me sweating bullets, but luckily, my boyfriend didn’t notice anything odd about this series of events and had a fantastic party. On an equally important note, I wore a pretty adorable romper from A’GACI, which you can check out on my Instagram (@loansandlouboutins). ANYWAY, after a weekend of cake, jello shots and keg stands, I’m heading to the beach to soak in some rays and play endless rounds of mini golf. Here’s a little collage of my beach getaway essentials. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated on my beach adventures and outfits via Instagram. Now someone please pass me a Margarita…It’s vacation time.

Look for Less: Comic-Con Edition

Jessica Alba always nails it on the fashion-front, and her appearance at the 2014 Comic-Con convention in San Diego was no exception. Alba was at the convention promoting her latest film ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill for’ when she wore this gorgeous high-waisted Zimmermann skirt with shear panelling and this sexy Tanya Taylor crop top. She completed the look with a pair of statement heels, a small french braid, edgy jewelry, and a killer smokey eye. Jessica totally nailed this look and no doubt had a gaggle of drooling teenagers dressed in costume following her around all day. Check out my suggestions below for creating your own wallet-friendly Jessica Alba inspired look. Dare I say it? You’ll be ‘A Dame to Kill for.’

Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ NYC Fashion

It’s no secret that I absolutely adore Taylor Swift. That chick is a class act, with a sense of humor, endless talent and a humbleness that most celebrities could take a note from. Since moving to the Big Apple, Taylor has seriously stepped up her fashion game. I mean, homegirl looks better leaving the gym than I do on my best day. I seriously don’t understand how one human being can be so on point with their fashion day-in and day-out. Don’t just take my word for it. Check out a few of my favorite T-Swizzle looks below and a few ideas on how to recreate the looks. Oh and real quick, Taylor you should know: girl you be killin em,  you be killin em.

  Look #1: Romping Around sev-taylor-swift-street-style-floral-romper-nyc-lgn

Here, Taylor shows off her mile long legs in a floral romper, paired with yellow heels, a neutral tope purse, and her trademark red lip. Let me just clarify something here: this is a picture of Taylor simply leaving her apartment. Now, when I leave my house I’m usually searching frantically through my purse for my keys/cellphone/wallet/whatever it is I’ve misplaced that day, while trying to remember if I turned off the curling iron. Meanwhile, Tay is all like “Oh, hey paparazzi, what’s up?” She probably continued on to save a kitten and find a cure for cancer. To replicate this classy look, try this floral romper from Forever 21. For a little more definition, belt the romper at the waist a-la Taylor. Next, add a fun pop of color with your shoes, like these hot pink suede heels from Steve Madden.

Look #2: Casual Chic

Taylor chose this fun, casual look for a lunch date at Sarabeth’s with her model BFF Karlie Kloss. Clearly not only does Taylor have good taste friends and restaurants (Sarabeth’s Popeye Eggs and Buttermilk Pancakes are to die for), but she also has great taste in casual chic attire. Now, from the front Taylor appears to be wearing a fairly conservative, white, quarter sleeve shirt, but then she turns around and BAM the shirt exposes the entire lower portion of her back. It’s like the most beautiful mullet of shirts; business in the front, party in the back. She paired the adorable top with cut-offs, nude heels, and a classy black structured bag. This cute little long sleeve crop top with an exposed back from NASTY GAL would be perfect for recreating this look. Pair it with high-waisted jean shorts for the perfect summer-chic ensemble.

Look #3: Sexy in the City

This might be my favorite Taylor Swift street style look of all time. First, I love the matching crop top and skirt. Plus, the plunging crop top is perfectly balanced out with the knee length skirt, which stays age appropriate with the front slit. The dainty purse and neutral shoes let this adorable polka-dot ensemble speak for itself. I’m personally obsessed the the matching skirt/shirt combination and this look has become a favorite amongst celebrities like Taylor and Ariana Grande. Try the look out for yourself with a fun floral pattern set like this one from Forever 21. Take a note from Taylor and let the look stand out by keeping your accessories neutral and to a minimum.

If we can learn anything from Taylor Swift it’s this: don’t let boys make you cry (but if they do, write a song about it that they’ll have to hear on the radio 24/7), a red lip is always a ‘do’, and class and confidence are the best accessories a girl can have. P.S. Taylor: if you’re looking for some more NYC friends, I’m totes available.

What do you think of Taylor’s NYC style? What’s you favorite look? Let me hear what you think in the comments below!
