Cause Darling I’m A Nightmare Dressed Like A Daydream

If you guys have been following me on Instagram *wink wink hint hint:@loansandlouboutins* then you’re all well aware that I’m absolutely obsessed with Taylor Swift’s new album ‘1989.’ It’s no secret that Taylor is my favorite celebrity of all time, so my opinion MIGHT be a little biased, but this may or may not be the best album ever. Girlfrand is freaking killin it on the charts and sounded amazing on Good Morning America. I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when the ‘Blank Space’ music video came out (you can ask my wonderfully patient roommates: I talked about it for two days straight). Not only does Taylor know how to poke fun at herself, but she knows how to do it while looking fabulous. Below are a few of my favorite fashion moments from the ‘Blank Space’ video. Oh, and Taylor in case you haven’t seen my continuous Tweets/Instagrams: I’m free anywhere anytime to hang out. But my best friend?

1) Taylor Kills A Cake

Okay, I don’t know about you, but I wear my old high school T-shirts and yoga pants with holes in them to bed. Not Tay. Everything about this look is off the charts hot. Between the all black, the sheer cardigan and the lace sleeping mask, I’m certainly inspired to amp up my sleepwear. Emulate Taylor’s look with a black bralette and her famous red lip, but maybe just leave the knife in the kitchen. Oh, and let’s not forget the special appearance by Taylor’s cat Olivia Benson. I actually don’t think she can get any cooler.

2) Ooops I Dropped Your Phone…

Taylor Swift Blank Space

I dare you to tell me you don’t love this outfit. First off, holy crap does this girl have some long legs. At 5’3 her stature is enviable to say the least. Since I cant have her height, I can at least copy her outfit. The matching crop top and skirt combo has been a favorite look of mine for a while now. This floral pencil skirt and crop top would look amazing for a night out with killer heels and a leather jacket. Your gonna look so fab everyone’s gonna be all:

3) Taylor Hangs Out With A Deer

Screen shot 2014-11-15 at 2.01.13 PMThis is hands down one of the best parts of the video when Taylor gets crazy eyes and goes berserk on her leading man. A leopard print dress with heels and gold jewelry a-la Taylor is a perfect date night option. Just be sure to leave your crazy at home. Also, I wouldn’t be doing this look justice if I didn’t include this gem:

So go watch ‘Blank Space’ for the 1000th time and check out all of these amazing style moments. The haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate about Taylor’s love life, but we all know she’s the one who’s laugh laugh laugh laughing all the way to the bank.

Let’s Get Physical

Truth be told, once I got to college, working out reached the bottom of my to-do list. After a long day of classes, an internship, and writing papers, getting on the treadmill was literally the last thing I wanted to do. Ultimately, laying in bed with a slice of pizza watching a Sex and the City marathon beat out going to the gym more times than I’d care to admit. I always found the gym boring, but this summer I committed myself to getting back in shape. I realized that while I find walking on the treadmill for an hour a total snoozefest, I absolutely love taking group classes. When I saw that my gym was offering a beginners yoga class I figured I would try it out.  To be honest I went in to that class thinking the whole thing would be “focus on your breathing, namaste” nonsense, but it turned out to be a challenging, yet somehow relaxing workout. Now I’m totally obsessed with yoga and have even gotten into other classes like zumba and spin. The best part about getting back into a fitness routine? Brand new workout clothes! Oh, yeah and you know, being healthy and fit is kinda cool too. When it comes to workout gear there are some things that you should invest in, while others can be found at bargain prices. Below I’ve compiled some save and splurge guidelines for workout gear!

Save: Sports Bras

aerie sports bra  gap high impact sports bra

Now, this might seem like a strange one to suggest saving on but hear me out. According to Women’s Health Magazine, most sports bras loose their supportiveness over time, and should be replaced every 6-12 months. So, while that super awesome sports bra that costs $50 might seem like a great buy at the moment, chances are you’ll have to toss it within the year. Personally I love Aerie’s Fit Racerback Bra for things like yoga and spin class. At $15 you can buy three of these for the price of one at other stores. If you’re participating in more high impact activities, Gap offers a great line of sports bras for just $24.99.

Splurge: Sneakers

           Nike-Free-TR-4-Womens-Training-Shoe-629496_600_A adidas mint shoes

Lets face it: our feet put up with a lot. We shove them in 6 inch heels, we run to the subway in unsupportive flats, and sometimes we step on that hair clip we forgot to pick up off the floor. Since wearing worn out or unsupportive sneakers can cause injury, let us vow to give our feet a little more love. First, make sure you’re wearing the right shoe for the type of exercise your participating in. Since I’m certainly no doctor (blood = Rachel fainting) , I’ll let this article give you a little more explanation on that front. Don’t be shy to ask a sales assistant at whatever store you’re shopping in for some guidance. They’ll be more than happy to find you the right sneaker for your exercise routine. Nike has an excellent website that will help you narrow down the sneaker you need based on what kind of exercise your doing. Bonus: Nike has a feature that allows you to design your own custom shoe. Hot pink shoes anyone?!

Save: Workout Tops

forever 21 workout shirttarget yoga top

Since you’re probably going to want to buy quite a few workout tops, I would recommend keeping your eyes peeled for some budget friendly options. You can look just as stylish and comfortable in a $10 shirt as you would in a $50 shirt. This tank from Forever 21 is perfect for whatever you like doing at the gym and comes in adorable mint green and pink. At $12.80 you can get both colors without feeling the least bit guilty. Target also offers a wide variety of stylish workout gear at great prices. This top would be perfect for my weekly yoga class. Namaste y’all.

Splurge: Bottoms

alala knee tights vs yoga pants

While some of your workout gear may be reserved solely for the gym, those yoga pants are guaranteed to make an appearance when you’re heading to the library or running errands. For that reason I would say go crazy and splurge a little on some cute and durable workout bottoms. I have to say I’m pretty obsessed with these capris from Alala. Not only would they be perfect for my workouts, but I wouldn’t think twice about wearing them outside of the gym. With the cute design and comfortable fit, these will definitely be your new go-to. Obviously we can’t forget our good friend the yoga pant. These yoga pants from Victoria’s Secret are a favorite of mine with the cute patterned fold over top. These pants are perfect to take you from the gym to a casual lunch with the girls.

So get out there and switch up your typical workout routine. You might just find a class or exercise that you never expected you’d love. What are your favorite exercise routines? What do like to wear when you’re working out? Any favorite stores to buy workout gear? Let me know!

Coral Is the New Black

I know I can’t be the only person who finished ‘Orange Is the New Black’ in three days and is feeling totally lost without Red, Piper, and the whole prison family. Since I’ve yet to find myself a new show to binge watch, (I’m thinking Ray Donovan might be next) I’ve decided to channel some of my post-OITNB sadness into a new post. While I do admire Morello’s ability to look fab in prison, (tissues as hair curlers? Genius), OITNB obviously lacks in the fashion department. Since orange is totally NOT my color, I decided to focus on orange’s not-so-distant-cousin, and my favorite color of the moment: Coral. Below are a few of my favorite ways to show off this fun and summery color.

aerie bikini

I know you guys are probably getting sick of me telling you how much I love Aerie’s bikinis BUT I wouldn’t keep telling you about them if I didn’t seriously love them. This coral bikini from Aerie has an adorable ruffle on the top, as well as a cute little pineapple print on the top and bottom. Between the print, the color, and the comfortable halter fit, you’ll be wearing this bikini all summer long. The top is currently $29.99 and the bottom is $19.99 which means you’ll have the who set for $50! Pretty sweet deal considering some stores, which shall not be named, are trying to selling bathing suits for upwards of $150! They do realize they’re selling two tiny pieces of fabric, correct? Total pet peeve.

coral skirt nasty gal

There’s nothing cuter than a bright skirt in the summer, and this coral skirt from NASTY GAL totally fits the bill. With the high waist and pleated detail, I would totally rock this look with a crop top like the one on the model. For a daytime look I would swap the crop top for a graphic tee and flats. All of this coral is reminding me how much I need to put on some self tanner..

coral necklace baublebar

If you’ve never heard of BaubleBar I seriously suggest you head over to the site and check it out. They have the cutest jewelry at great prices, plus if you sign up for their emails you’ll receive 15% off your first purchase. Also, every Friday and Monday they mark down one item to $10 and another to $20. If you sign up for the emails they will send you hints to find the “Buried Bauble.” It’s like an adult version of a treasure hunt, only the hidden treasure is totally enviable and affordable jewelry! Case and point: this eye catching coral statement necklace is $36! Use the 15% off code and you’ll have yourself a gorgeous necklace for about $30.

asos coral beach bag

I’ve been searching high and low for a new beach bag that will (A) be able to hold the copious amounts of magazines and other items I bring to the beach (B) look cute (C) doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I think I’ve finally found what I have been looking for with this straw and coral trimmed beach bag from ASOS. This bag is cute enough to go from the beach, to a night out, and at $29.53, I think this will be my new go-to bag.

Are you guys loving coral right now? Is there another color that you’re completely obsessed with for summer? Let me know!

Scandalous Sales

After clearing out my closet and finally getting rid of things like Hollister shorts that would be too short on a toddler (why was this EVER a trend?), I was left with clothes that I actually like and have actually worn in the past 12 months. However, I felt my wardrobe needed an update, but as I’m sure most of you guys can relate, I’ve got 99 problems and being broke is definitely one. That’s why I set myself a $100 budget to update my closet (I did it with $70). Check out what I bought, and how I got it on the cheap.

Cotton On- Total Spent: 39.97

floral cottonon dressback floral cotton dress

For those of you who have been following my blog, I’m sure you’ve realized that my style is far more girly-chic than sexy. However, I’ve been dying to try out the cut-out trend without feeling totally naked. When I first saw this dress from the front I liked the girly floral pattern, but when I turned it around I LOVED the exposed back and cut-out. It was the perfect balance for me between girly and sexy. Oh, and the fact that this dress was 30% off and ended up costing $13.97 only deepened the love affair between me and this dress.

close up floral dressback of sunflower dress

As I was cleaning out my closet I realized that I had plenty of dressy dresses, for example, every hideous high school homecoming dress, but not a lot of cute daytime dresses. This sunflower print dress was exactly what I was looking for and when I tried it on it was super flattering and comfortable. This will be the perfect dress for when it reaches 90 degrees in NYC and living in Antarctica seems very appealing. This dress was also 30% off and came to $10.47. Hell to the yeah.

cottonon pants

These pants were undoubtably my favorite purchase of the week. I really wanted to try out the printed pant look but I just wasn’t sure if I could pull it off, and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a pair. That’s when these amazing pants caught my eye. I actually wore these pants yesterday and you shouldn’t be surprised if I wear these pants every single day this summer. They are the most comfortable pants EVER and they look adorable. My jaw actually dropped at the checkout counter when she told me these were 30% off coming to $7.00. Yes, that’s right, $7.00.

cottonon crop topback of crop top cottonon

My friends always joke with me that I don’t have enough “going-out clothes.” I always set out on missions to buy cute crop tops and skirts and inevitably end up with another armful of jeans and cardigans. I really liked this polka-dot crop top and I know it’ll look great with a high waisted skirt for a night out. Plus, this was also 30% off and cost a whopping $7.00. Finally a store that understands that half a shirt should cost half the price.

Aerie- Total Spent: 31.61

black aerie shorts

For those of you who follow me on Instagram (are ya getting my hints yet people?) you know that I recently purchased these Aerie shorts in the pineapple print. I loved them so much that I went back and bought them in black. I figured black will go great with pretty much any outfit, plus they’re so dang comfortable I couldn’t pass up buying another pair. These shorts were $24.95 but if you check out the website they’re currently $14.99! Get on that my friends!

aerie headband

Hi, my name is Rachel, and I have a headband addication. I love love love headbands. Even if you look at pictures of me as a baby I’m wearing a headband in pretty much every picture. I have some pretty crazy curly hair and headbands are the perfect way to tame what I call “the lions mane.” Headbands with fun patterns like this one are my absolute favorite, plus its reversible with a pink and white polka dot print on the other side! This headband was $6.99, but since it was on clearance it was an extra 60% off and came to $2.80. Can’t beat that am I right?

lilac aerie braI’ve noticed that delicate lace bras peeking out of tanks has become popular lately and I totally wanted to try the trend out for myself. I love the girly lilac color of this bra and I think it will look awesome peeking out underneath a white or black tank. This bra was originally $24.95, but since everything in the store was buy one get one for $10.00 this bra came to a mere $10.00!

I also had a 20% off coupon for Aerie which is how it all came to $31.61. So, my total for this wardrobe update came to $71.58, which included two dresses, a pair of pants, a shirt, a pair of shorts, a headband, and a bra. I was able to keep the price low by shopping sales at both Cotton On and Aerie. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for sales like these to keep your wardrobe packed and you wallet heavy!

Do you have any tricks for getting great deals? Any trends you wanna try out, but don’t want to spend money on? Let me know guys! Your feedback helps me write better posts!

Steals and Deals of the Week

Do you ever have one of those weeks where all your money goes out the window and then you look back and go “Wait, what did I even buy?” Well, this was one of those weeks for me between gas, a haircut ,and of course, the pitfall that is CVS. This week I went in there to buy Claritin. That is all. I walked out $50 poorer after buying nail polish, bobby pins, a shower cap and a slew of other things that I definitely didn’t need. It’s like every time I walk into CVS I start to prepare for a beauty apocalypse and convince myself that I should stock up on that extra bottle of nail polish remover “just in case.”Anywho, since I’m working this whole weekend I’ll have a little extra spending money, but I still don’t want to spend a fortune on anything. Here’s my Steals and Deals of the Week for all my fellow broke beauties.

 Aeropostale: Jacquard Bustier Dress- $29.75

aero dress

Now, I’ve got to be honest here: I haven’t shopped at Aeropostale in a really long time. It sort of got lost in the high school transition from Abercrombie and Hollister to Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. That being said, I was pleaseantly surprised when I stumbled upon this adorable bustier dress and learned it was from Aeropostale! After finding this little number, I went on the Aeropostale website and found a number of great pieces. It seems to me that the company has updated their styles and I’m 100% on board. I’m loving the print and silhouette of this dress, and at $29.75, I might just have to get this floral romper as well..

Urban Outfitters: Sparkle & Fade Double-Slit Maxi Skirt- $19.99

urban slit skirt

In the heat of summer it can be monotonous to wear shorts day after day after day. That’s why I’m a huge fan of maxi skirts. Not only are they comfortable, but they’re also lightweight, not to mention adorable. When I first saw this skirt I loved the floral pattern and double slits, but I was afraid of pulling an Angelina Jolie on the red carpet with her leg sticking out. After some careful examination, A.K.A stalking Urban’s website, I think the airy, high-waisted fit should make this look completely scary leg proof. Gosh, what on earth would you guys do without these incredibly scientific anaylis’ of clothes?

Aerie: Emma Pushup Bikini Top:  $24.99

aerie bikini

If you follow me on Instagram (*cough cough* *wink wink*) you know that I recently bought this bikini at Aerie. Words cannot express how much I love this bathing suit. The pushup top is flattering without being over-the-top, and the bottoms have the perfect amount of coverage. Aerie is currently hosting their semi-annual sale, so pretty much everything on the site is discounted. If you’re in need of bathing suits I HIGHLY suggest stocking up now, especially since there is free shipping with any swim purchase. While you’re on the site buying up all of their swimwear, I might as well play devil’s advocate and recommend these shorts which are currently marked down to $14.99. They are beyond comfortable and the fun pattern is perfect for summer. You can check out how I styled these shorts on Instagram (*COUGH COUGH* *WINK WINK*)

Do you guys think you’ll buy any of these products? Do you know of any great deals going on right now? Let me know! Oh, and if by some crazy, off-chance something has prompted you to want to check out my Instagram, the link is on the main page!
